So often I’ve forgotten
Just what it means to pray
And how to help those most in need
Who put love on display
I’ve forgotten what it means to care
For those we can’t forget
Allowed my actions to be changed
By things I would neglect
I’ve forgotten what it is to give
Expecting nothing back
And lost the pathway to the Lord
Though parallel the track
I’ve forgotten what it means to be
Much better than I should
And wish that I might not forget
The truly common good
I’ve forgotten just how love does feel
When it is freely shared
And just how God reveals to me
A love that’s uncompared
I’ve forgotten too those many things
I wanted to forget
For they did bring anxiety
Which I could not neglect
Then last and most importantly
I’ve forgotten how to live
Since I forgot those joyful words
That do my life forgive
